About the Sacramento Orchid Society (SOS)

The Sacramento Orchid Society was founded in 1947 as an educational organization dedicated to providing information on the cultivation of orchids to the greater Sacramento community.

The organization currently includes nearly 190 households and over 270 people. The Society's very active membership grows an almost unimaginable number of orchid species and hybrids on windowsills, patios, in yards, under lights and in greenhouses.

Meetings feature expert speakers from around the world, opportunities for members to sell plants to one another, a raffle of plants, and a delightful measure of fellowship and good times.  All are welcome.  You do not have to be a member to attend our meetings.  You are welcome as a guest.  Meetings are FREE and there's plenty of free parking.

Meetings: Our general membership meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at the Odd Fellows Hall, 1831 Howe Ave. (921-0569), Sacramento.  Doors open at 6pm and the meeting begins at 7pm  All are welcome at our meetings and membership is not required to attend.  For more information on our meetings, dates and specifics click:  SOS MEETINGS

Plant Raffle: Our guest speaker normally supplies plants for the evening's raffle table. Many are in bloom and this is a fantastic opportunity to obtain great plants at a very low cost!

Show & Tell: Our members bring their blooming plants to share for the enjoyment of all.  For each plant brought in, the owners receives a special raffle ticket.  During the meeting, knowledgeable members will often walk through the plant table, discussing ways to grow orchids and interacting with the owners so that all can learn.

Refreshments:  refreshments (desserts) are provided by the membership on a volunteer basis.  When you bring treats, you receive two extra raffle tickets.  Normally there is a break in the meeting for all to enjoy these light snacks, coffee and other beverages.

Plant Sales Table: This table is provided for members to bring in extra plants that ey wish to sell.  This is an opportunity for our members and visitors to obtain nice orchid plants at reasonable prices.

Annual Orchid Plant Sale & Show: Our members take pride in participating in one of the most attended and well presented floral shows in the Sacramento area.

Special events: The society occasionally participates in special events such as the Sacramento Zoo's Blooming Crazy days where they offer advice and plant sales.  If you're interested in the society providing an information table/booth, free plant clinics and re-potting, contact us!
