UPDATED OR NEW LOGO DESIGN CONTEST!
The Sacramento Orchid Society has several logos - all of which no one seems to have the original of. Most of these are in poor condition because of repeated copying or reproducing. They're fuzzy, poorly drawn or just outdated.
We need to either UPDATE one of these logos or design a completely new logo.
So we are having a logo contest. If you're a graphic designer or just a doodler and want to come up with a new logo - which MUST be in digital format (no drawings), scaleable (can be made bigger or smaller) and is clean and works well in both color AND black and white - we want your design!
The contest starts now and will be concluded by our June meeting when we will vote on which logo(s) to adopt.
Prizes will be awarded and are TBA at this time... So get to work! Below are the CURRENT logos we have...
- Sacramento Zoo Blooming Days Booth a complete Success!

On Saturday, March 7th, Board members Scott, Cathy and Bev had a booth at the Sacramento Zoo's Blooming Crazy Day. The zoo reported attendance at over 4,000 people and we had a very successful day! John, our Show chair also helped out a good portion of the day.
Scott provided a pop-up tent and tables while Cathy brough snacks plus plants to sell (as a benefit to the orchid society we purchased plants), club t-shirts and books. We sold 18 plants and signed up three (3) new members! We aslo sold four (4) T-shirts and one (1) book. We also sold six (6) discounted tickets to the Spring Show & Plant Sale.
We gave out flyers promoting the show and lots of instructions on how to grow orchids. The new website was actually inundated for a short while when almost forty people tried to view it simultaneously! Over 70 people viewed the website on Saturday, many spending a lot of time exploring it, particularily our online care sheets. So the event was a complete success! Special thanks to Cathy Norris for putting it all together, gather the plants, etc. Also special Thanks to Bev for printing up the care sheets!

Yard signs to promote our Orchid Show & Plant sale will be available at the next meeting
Scott Farrell, an SOS Board member and owner of Zanzibar Trading Company has sponsored plastic yard signs to promote our upcoming Orchid Plant Show and Sale. These signs measure 18x24" and come with metal stakes to place in the ground.
They will be available for FREE at the April 1st general meeting or you can pick them up at Scott's store at the corner of 18th & L in midtown (please call first at (916) 443-5601).
Members are encouraged to take signs and place in your yards (if you live on a well-traveled street) as well as to place around town. Scott will go over where and where you cannot place them (not on freeway onramps, not on private property, etc.)
IF YOU TAKE SIGNS and put them up... you also have to remove them after the show! Thanks!

Digital Sign on Hwy 50 at Sac State to feature ads to promote our orchid show!
Clear Channel Outdoor has agreed to provide the SOS with FREE promotional space, as available on their digital outdoor sign on Hwy 50 at Sac State. We will make them an official sponsor of the show and provide them with tickets to our show.
We will, on a space available basis, have three different banners (see below) rotating with other ads.
The cost, for a month, would normally be $19,000!!! We will have ads displayed for eight seconds at a time, approximately 2x per minute (every 40 seconds or so) for almost an entire month! That's about 2500 impressions every 24 hours! Thousands of drivers will see these banners and hopefully increase our attendance!
The banners had to be simple, as the average motorist will only see them for about 2 seconds. Special thanks to board member Scott Farrell for making this happen! Cathy Norris and Bev Moon are also doing lots of other great promotions for the show including TV interviews!
