This month the Sacramento Orchid Society will be holding its annual auction. Our members, including the AOS judges from the California Sierra Nevada Judging Center, provide plants from their collections to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. This is a great way to grow your collection and to get a bunch of outstanding and unique orchids for your collection. Many of them go for far less then you'd be able to buy them at retail so if you're into orchids, or just looking for a great deal on an orchid or two, this is the event for you. The auction is open to the public.
Our own Alan Koch will be our auctioneer again this year. Alan always provides a lot of information and background on the orchids that are being auctioned off. You will definitely know whether an orchid is right for you with Alan in charge.
This year, one of our long time members is downsizing his collection and donating them to the auction. His orchids have won hundreds of awards and many of the ones he is donating have won awards. He specializes in Cattleya orchids so if you are looking to add some award winning Cattleya and Cattleya hybrids to your collection, you won't want to miss this year's auction.
We don't do a Show & Tell table as the auction takes up the entire meeting time. There will be some refreshments available and often times members bring in other drinks to share. If you're looking to get a unique and well grown orchid, many of which have come from awarded plants, then this is a great opportunity to do so. We hope to see everyone there.
